Areas by Counting Squares

 

Count as “one” any squares that are half or more and ignore any squares that are less than half

 

eg.

  

 

Areas of Compound Shapes

 

Split the shape into rectangles and triangles and label the separate shapes A, B, C, D… etc.  Find any missing lengths.  Calculate the area of each shape.  Add up the areas to find the total.
