Pie charts are drawn as sections of a circle.
eg.
The size of each
section shows the number of things happening
The bigger the angle, the more things have been counted
eg. Pie chart to show Games Options
Most people
do rugby
Less do soccer
Least do swimming
As
each circle is . If the angles are given (or can be found
using a protractor), the individual numbers can be found.
1.
Divide the total by to find how many for
2. Multiply by the angle
eg. If 60 people did Games in total and the angles are:
Rugby =
Soccer =
Swimming =
then
Rugby = people
Soccer = people
Swimming = people
(check 30 + 20 + 10 = 60 people!)
To draw a pie chart you must find how many degrees are needed for each section. This can be done by:
1. Add the amounts to find the total
2.
Divide by the total and multiply by the amount
eg. 20 people like History
40 people like Geography
50 people like PE
90 people like Maths
1. Total = 20 + 40 + 50 + 90
= 200 people
2. for History
=
Geography =
PE =
Maths =
Then draw a large circle using your compass and measure the exact angles using your protractor.
