Tally Charts

 

A tally chart is a quick way of counting how many in each category.  Count them in order and put a mark in the correct place.  When you get to 5, put a mark across

 

eg.        ||||

Grouping information

 

Sometimes information cannot be counted easily.  Then it is easier to group it into convenient categories.

eg.        Height of plants in cm.
