Remainder Theorem
The Remainder theorem lets you know what the remainder is when one function is divided by another. To find the remainder when a function is divided by :
· first assume that and rearrange for , ie .
· Find .
· The remainder will be the value this works out to be.
Eg. What is the remainder when is divided by ?
Let
Find
therefore the remainder of is 2.
An extension of the Remainder Theorem is the Factor Theorem.
